eBay has announced that its closing down Magento Go and ProStores, these are shopping cart services aimed at the SME market.

Magento Go and ProStores have around 10,000 merchants, who will now have to find an alternative solution for their shopping needs before February 1, 2015.

There are several other online shopping cart systems like for instance Bigcommerce who stand ready to take over these customers with ready made migration solutions.

But for those who feel vary of using yet another rented shopping cart system and would rater “own” their own shop, popular shopping cart software alternatives like Magento Community, Zen Cart, OpenCart, Prestashop and Oscommerce combined with a decent hosting provide valid alternatives.
